Each piece is handcrafted in the arid Karoo region of South Africa by artist Gideon Engelbrecht and his skilled team. Hundreds or thousands of shards of shattered eggshell are painstakingly selected and placed in an individual design, which undergoes a series of elaborate processes to protect and enhance its beauty.

A wide variety of African elements are incorporated: brass, silver, copper, leather, wood and minerals from the Karoo.
